Have you ever known how skateboarding came to be a sport? The history of it is quite interesting. It started out in the 1950’s and many believed it would just be one more passing fad that people took part in. While it has had peaks and valleys since its introduction, skateboarding has proven it is much more than just a passing fad.

The first skateboard was quite different from today’s skateboard. They offered a handle bar on them, just like many types of scooters that we see on the market today. This handle bar is what allowed these early skateboards to be maneuvered and controlled. However, it didn’t take long for the idea to remove the handle bar to come along. Many believe this early idea was the result of the popularity of surf boarding at the time.

By the 1960’s, the most popular one was the Roller Derby Skateboard. It was actually introduced in 1959 just ahead of the competitors. However, it took many of these companies to keep up with the demand for them. It is estimated that between 1960 and 1963 more than 50 million skateboards were sold. Keep in mind that we didn’t have the technology that we have today in order to mass produce such items in large buildings.

When the skateboarding official contests were started by manufacturers in 1963 it only further fueled the frenzy to have one. So what happened that slowed down the craze for skateboards? There are two main reasons that cause the sales down. First, the economic status of the United States began to slow down so people weren’t able to buy as many extras as before. Second, many so called experts out there were talking about how unsafe skateboards were.

However, there were plenty of people that were taking a new interest in skateboards by the early 1970’s. This was due to the introduction of a variety of great moves and tricks. This added a new dimension to skateboarding that hadn’t been there in the past. Now there was much more involved with it all than just simply riding a skateboard. Many of the top competitors out there took things to the extremes and continued to push the limits.

In 1974 a huge change too place regarding the size of the skateboards. Up to this point the standard was either 6 or 7 inches in width. It now became 9 inches which consumers were very pleased with. These additional few inches offered riders more stability and that meant it was easier for them to control regardless of what they liked to do on their skateboard.

The availability of ramps and other materials that skaters could use at home in the 1980’s kept the trend of skateboarding going strong. Now people didn’t have to rely upon just skate parks for them to enjoy. However, you also had an abundance of city ordinances around this same time. Many of them prohibited the use of skateboards on public sidewalks and streets.

As a result, the sales did dip into the 1990’s. Yet once again the idea of skateboarding was thriving. Many believe it had to do with the availability of the internet. People could view plenty of skateboarding action online. At the same time the sporting channel ESPN took on this sport as well.

One thing is for sure, skateboarding has enough of a following that it is here to stay. It is fun to look back at where it has been though over the years. What is also exciting is to speculate about what the future holds for the sport of skateboarding. With the worldwide presence it has, there is always plenty going on concerning it.

Snowboarding is basically surfing but on snow rather than on water. Snowboarding started around the 1960′s but really made itself known with its debut at the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Japan. Since then it has become one of the fastest growing sports with over 7 million people participating in the United States alone.

Snowboarding is a winter sport and is therefore difficult to participate in at any other time due to lack of snow. There are many ski resorts that now have slopes that are for snowboarding only so for those interested in trying out snowboarding ski resorts are a good place to start.

The main equipment that you will need for snowboarding is the board itself, snowboard boots and snowboard bindings. Of course you should also wear a good quality helmet and gloves. You can rent this equipment at ski resorts if you want to try out the sport before purchasing any equipment. It is actually a good idea to rent the equipment first anyway to find out which brand and size is best suited for you. Look for my latest article about snowboard sizing.

The main styles of snowboarding are ‘freeride’ and ‘freestyle’ with ‘freecarve’ also being quite popular.

Freeride

This is the most common style of snowboard riding and probably the easiest. It is the style that you want to be doing if you are a beginner as it is simply just riding down a mountain. Whether it is the mildest of slopes or the steepest of slopes if you are just doing a straight ride down the slope then it is a freeride.

A rider however can use some tricks while riding freeride if he chooses by using any natural terrain that may be on the slope he is riding on.

When riding freeride riders will usually have a soft boot and the snowboard itself will often be longer with stiffer flex, this is to ride effectively on any type of snow condition you may encounter.

Freestyle

The freestyle style is when the rider uses man made obstacles such as boxes, jumps, half pipes, quarter pipes, rails and more. They will use these objects to perform tricks such as aerial or jib tricks.

The usual stance used in freestyle is the ‘duck foot’ stance which is when the back foot is facing the back end of the board. Freestyle riders usually use a shorter board that has additional flex.

Freecarve

Freecarve or race is the style of snowboarding is used mainly for racing and carving. There is very little jumping if any with freecarve style as it generally focuses on carving.

Whatever style you prefer to use many resorts will be offer the appropriate slopes for you. Many resorts now have parks with rails and halfpipes for those wishing to performs some tricks.

Snowboarding is becoming a very popular sport among men and women of any age so be careful if you are trying it out you may soon be hooked.

Let’s Move On To Tips In Taking Care Of Snowboarding Equipments

Frequent snowboarding can take its toll on your boards as well as other gears. In order to make them last and save you from further costs, it’s best that you take care of them well. Maintenance is always the key when you own valuable items.

Snowboards need regular tuning to enjoy them for many seasons and maximize your experience in this ultimate winter sport. You have to take care of your gear especially when the winter season comes to an end. Not being able to maintain it well may only result in poor performance or early deterioration of your board.

But before you try to do anything yourself, we share some tips that will give you helpful information on what parts of your board require special care and whether it’s time you should bring them to the shop and be professionally maintained. Of course, doing the basic maintenance yourself can save you money and you can do it without the use of many specialized tools. However, if you want to smoothen the snowboard’s base, never attempt to do it alone as a specialized grinder is the only tool that can do the work.

Clean is in

Cleaning the board is the first important step any snowboarder should take. Grime and dirt are most likely to build up on your board so make sure that you get rid of them at the end of the winter season. The best product to use is a citrus cleaner because it not only takes away dirt but also removes any dead wax from the base. All you have to do is just apply the cleaner and use a clean cloth or rag to get rid of dirt or any residue.

Check the edge

After cleaning, check your board to find out if there are certain portions that need fixing. Look carefully at the edges and the base. If the edges appear to be dull or burred, they need to be filed to keep them in good shape.

As for the base, if you see any minor damage, you can easily fix it with a tune-up kit that should include a p-tex candle. However, if you’re not certain about this, better bring your equipment to a snowboard shop and have it tuned up.

Wax to the max

Once you’ve seen that your board in is in good condition, it’s time to apply a new coat of wax. The things you will need at this stage are a scraper, iron and wax, preferably an all-temperature wax. Any iron will do but there are irons specially made for waxing a snowboard.

Now, while using the iron, apply a thick coat of wax on the base and make sure that it covers not only the base but the edges as well. Then scrape the wax from the base and the edges. The wax here serves to prevent the board from drying out and the edges from getting rusty while it is being stored.

Proper storing

Your snowboard together with your gear should be kept in a cool dry place during the hot summer months. As much as possible, don’t store them in the basement. Boots that are the soft type should be properly cleaned and should be applied with foot oil to maintain its softness.

Following these tips is a sure way to have durable and long lasting snow boards. So, keep them in mind and have a great experience with snowboarding.

All paintball guns may look the same but it is important to remember that choosing the right paintball gun is not an easy task. Here are some tips that you may need to consider:

1. The very first thing that needs to be considered when buying a paintball gun is the price. It is important that the buyer determine his budget for the gun. There are many paintball guns in the market and prices may range from $100 to $900. The cost of the gun will depend on the brand and features that come with it.

2. It is recommended a person test all types of guns before buying one. He may want to try those that he has borrowed or rented which will give him the chance to choose which a gun that works for him. The paintball gun should provide ease of use and comfort for the user.

3. Before buying a paintball gun, it is important that he decide on the size of the gun, the paintball loader and the tank that he desires. Remember that the bigger the tanks and the paintball loaders the heavier the gun becomes. A good gun should be the right size for the user and should contain the amount of paintball needed to fire at the opponents.

4. The buyer should shop around first before deciding on a particular paintball gun. This will give him the chance to evaluate and compare prices. Some shops offer lower prices than other shops, so do some research and purchase the one that fits your needs and pocketbook.

5. Seek advice from friends who play paintball, instructors, and coaches of paintball games who will be able to provide some tips on what paintball guns they have used and have found effective. Paintball stores can also recommend some good paintball guns and/or those that they most often sell to their customers.

After choosing the right paintball gun, you must familiarize yourself with the machine. Practicing with the paintball gun will help you move with the gun as well as apply some strategies for using the gun.

The skateboard is a certain device which was conceived as a means of surfing outside of water. The history of skateboards cannot be specifically traced back to a certain age but is indeed very fascinating. Some hold the belief that the art of skateboarding began on the beaches of California while some other hold other that the background of skateboarding can be traced to some other place. In the recent times however skateboards are seen as an emblem of youthful energy and vigor. In the early era of 1930s the kids in the United States attached the roller skates to a board which measured up to two to four inches. But it was not before 1958 that the modern range of skateboards was invented.

Talking about the design of the skateboards it can be easily claimed that they were inspired from that of surfboards. In the initial phase they were quite similar to that of the surfboards but in the following times there was a change in the design due to that of the commodities. The first range of skateboards was manufactured in the year 1965. They were thick by one inch and had in them rubber wheels and also cast iron trucks. With varied range of skateboards available the skateboarders are also able to classify themselves accordingly like free style skateboarders, high jump skateboarders, downhill skateboarders, long jump skateboarders and so on.

Today with the popularity of skateboarding especially in the Western parts of the world the surfing enthusiasts are developing a special fascination over the skateboards and this is leading to an increase in the manufacture of skateboards of different types. There are also certain trivia attached to that of the skateboard. In the year 1993, on 17th August Thomas Welsh was issued patent # 5,236,208 for a skateboard which would be platform steerable. Following that Allan Ollie Gelfand invented Ollie which was again a trick of skateboarding where in the skateboarder would jump into the air with the skateboard completely attached to his feet. Though there was a lapse in the popularity of the skateboards in the 70s and 80s it has made a huge comeback again both in the arena of pastime and sport in the contemporary times. In the United States skateboarding ranks sixth when it comes to the talk of the sports which has the largest number of participants. In the coming years also it is likely to remain the major attraction as well as the centerpiece of the youth culture of America.

Getting exposed to skateboards early in life is a great boon because it helps you overcome your fear of trying those daredevil stunts. Mastering tricks on skateboards and being able to manoeuvre them through your busy streets will truly help you fly past. It gives you a freedom that’s unmatched and this little stint that you get acquainted with will give provide you with an unmatched joy for life. It’s not just fun, but it’s time saving apart from being cost effective and eco friendly. Truly they provide you with a freedom that can only be complimented.

Snowboarding is an adventure sport, much younger than surfing, skateboarding and skiing. Its history runs back to the 1960s, when this sport was developed in the United States, after conceiving inspiration from the predecessors of this sport. It is an item in the Winter Olympics too. Just like skiing, surfing and skateboarding, snowboarding also involves moving at good speed. The surface is snow and the movement is downward from a snow covered hill or mountain top. The rider can balance himself/herself on a snowboard, jumping over the hillocks and performing amazing stunts while in the air.

It requires special skills and courage to take up snowboarding. The rider has to wear protective cloth to ensure protection against the ice cold weather. If you choose the location right, snowboarding is not a risky sport. It is an adventure sport, but not riskier than similar forms of sport, which have ocean waves and solid ground as surface. The technique has to be right, so is the selection of snowboards.

Snowboarding has been served by quite a few companies that designed strong, reliable snowboards, which guarantee better stability and pace for snowboarding. The main equipment is the snowboard, which is attached to the boots. The early history of snowboarding goes back to 1965, when Sherman Poppen designed Snurfer, which was essentially a skateboard without wheels. Then in the 1970s and 80s, much innovation was brought into the designing of snowboards. Slowly, ski resorts became open to the idea of opening their space for snowboarders and there began the history of snowboarding.

Free ride, freestyle and free carve are the main styles of snowboarding. They all are adopted at varying pace by snowboarding enthusiasts. In freestyle, you can find manmade obstacles placed in the path and the snowboarders manoeuvring over the obstacles with much agility and flexibility. Seeing the action is quite an interesting thing, with the riders going past at a good speed and performing gravity defying stunts.

Snowboarding enthusiasts also should observe the safety precautions to be safe. Protective gear are designed in good numbers. Goggles are a must to ensure protection to eyes and to prevent temporary blindness from happening, especially in a bright day. Essential protection needs to be given to the wrists, knees, head, shoulders, etc. The key thing is to be able to identify the origin of an avalanche. Also be alert enough not to trigger an avalanche. Emergency response at time of an avalanche about to happen is also a key skill required by snowboarders.

Snowboarding as an adventure sport has got the attention of several publications and now there are several magazine available out there, solely for the purpose of telling you about snowboards, safety gear and snowboarding holidays.

Nobody knows why snowboarding was invented so late. It doesn’t matter, once people get used to snowboarding, it is one smooth ride.

Skydiving Magazine. first published in 1979. is the principal leader in skydiving news. training. and equipment. Unrivaled by competition. this magazine has survived the test of time. continuously providing up-to-date. unprecedented information to avid skydive fans. Boasting that it is a magazine “published by jumpers and for jumpers”. this has become the handbook for skydiving safety and technique.

Often compared to Parachutist. the only other magazine for skydivers. Skydiving Magazine offers more regional news. safety and performance articles. Since Parachutist is published by United States Parachute Association (USPA). the agency which governs skydiving in the United States. it tends to focus more on USPA events and news. technical articles. and regulations. Skydiving tends to cover competitions more fully and also provides information on non-regulation subjects. The coverage of nonconformist skydiving techniques has created a following of enthusiasts that enjoy other versions of this extreme sport.

One major advantage of Skydiving Magazine is it is the only widely distributed source of information on BASE jumping and BASE events as USPA does not recognize BASE jumping. BASE is an acronym for Building. Antennae. Span. and Earth and represents fixed objects from which jumps are made. Because BASE jumping is very dangerous and often illegal. it is not only disparaged in general. but frowned upon by USPA. This makes Skydiving Magazine a leader in this area of the sport.

The primary distinguishing characteristic of Skydiving Magazine is its print style. Skydiving is printed on enlarged tabloid style paper with a non-slick finish. More like a newspaper than a magazine. Skydiving is often criticized as having inferior picture quality and inadequate color due to this type of printing. However. many prefer this style as it maintains a traditional design and. because of its shorter production cycle. remains the most current in news and equipment information. Either way. if the publishing style is objectionable. it is not apparent in the record number of magazines that are sold every month to ardent readers.

Regardless of your skydiving experience. novice or expert. Skydiving Magazine is a must for your library. In order to stay abreast of the latest advancements in equipment. news. and the hottest gossip. you have to go to the authority in the sport. Skydiving Magazine is that authority.
